Season’s greetings! Five tips to infuse your end-of-year meetings with Christmas spirit

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the perfect opportunity to inject some festivity into your event.

We believe events are all about the experience, whether it’s a jubilant conference or an intimate meeting. It’s the little things that count, we have five tips to get your delegates into the holiday spirit and ensure your event is the icing on top of the year.

1. Deck the halls!

Whilst a flashing Santa in the middle of the room might be a little distracting for your delegates, it doesn’t hurt to brighten up their environment with festive accents. Think minimalist Christmas decorations rather than festive clutter, using decorations to accentuate the structure and design of the venue.

Speaking of decking the halls, why not consider a team-building activity using a Christmas tree? You could use a real tree as a blank canvas for them to decorate, like festive storyboarding, or give them old newspapers, magazines, toilet rolls and tape to create their own. Bonus points to the most creative team!

2. Provide a festive feast

It’s not just Father Christmas that enjoys a good mince pie. We believe that food is an enabler for successful events – well-fed delegates will feel more positive and involved with the day. We can help make your yuletide meetings merrier with classic festive treats such as mince pies or a tin of chocolates to go with their morning coffee.

At CentrEd, in addition to our range of healthy snacks and hot drinks, we’ve put together festive packages such as a seasonal buffet with all the trimmings, that can be served as a hot lunch to your delegates in the twinkling lights of our waterfront restaurant.

3. Make your meetings rewarding

Waning attention is an uphill struggle during the festive season as people look forward to the celebrations. It’s up to you to make your meetings engaging and productive, why not try rewarding your delegates for their input?

Incentivise engagement with fun activities such as a quiz spread throughout the meeting to encourage team work or improve focus. You could also consider an awards ceremony at the end of the day, giving small prizes in novelty categories such as best tweeter or most frequent participator. It doesn’t need to cost the earth, prizes could be anything from a chocolate coin to Christmas pudding – it’s the thought that counts.

4. Give your event a goodwill element

T’is the season to spread good cheer to others and a charitable twist to your meetings is the perfect way to make your delegates feel merry and bright. There are many ways you can give your event a goodwill element.

For example, you could ask your delegates to wear Christmas jumpers and donate a small sum as part of the Save The Children annual event. Or if dressing up isn’t appropriate, you could arrange a festive bake sale with the proceeds donated to a charity of your choice.

5. Make an evening of it

It’s the perfect time of year to bring everyone together. Meeting and training days are ideal times to encourage your delegates to mingle with their colleagues, as this helps foster stronger working relationships and collaboration. Consider extending your day time event into an evening reception to celebrate a year of hard work and finish 2017 on a high.

Treat your team to a warming Christmas dinner in the comfort of our restaurant, topped off with a mulled wine drinks reception by the water, or keep things lighter with a selection of delicious Christmas canapes such as brie and cranberry mini scones, sage and honey roast squash arancini or a turkey pie-let. We can hear those sleigh bells jingling already!
