Meet Rachel

We’d like to introduce you to Rachel Williams, our Business Development Manager.

We took time out to chat to Rachel about her time at CentrEd.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I have over 25 years’ experience working in the hospitality and events sector. Most of this time was spent working in the non-residential venue sector, opening and managing diverse venues. Before that I worked in various roles within the Financial Services sector and that’s where my interest in events really started as I was always involved in organising corporate events.

Outside of work, I have a keen interest in learning about other cultures, sports and music. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music, watching films and learning languages.

I have a degree in business studies and an MBA specialising in Leadership and Teams and Corporate Social Responsibility. I am married and live in Surrey.

Tell us about your role at CentrEd?

I am responsible for the overall commercial strategy of the business and successful performance of CentrEd. I oversee both sales and operations.

What does a day in your role look like?

My primary role is looking for new business and this means most of my day is spent communicating with clients on the phone, via email or face-face. Other times during the day, I may be in meetings on other projects. I also ensure I find time to catch up with my team. I believe investing time and energy in the team is an important part of being an inspiring leader.

What inspired you to work in events and why do you enjoy the events industry?

I am passionate about business and what drives a successful business. Over the years I have developed a very broad range of skills and experience. The events industry gives me the opportunity to use those skills and experiences. For instance, my background in financial services means I can easily understand and relate to what a client from this sector wants to achieve with their event.

The events industry involves bringing clients’ ideas and vision to fruition. This creative part of the industry is very interesting because I have the opportunity to work with clients on a project from the start, right through to completion.

What do you like most about your role?

The opportunity to get to know people and building relationships with them. Winning business from clients is great, but I am most fulfilled knowing I have played a part in the success of their events.

Tell us something interesting about yourself!

I have participated in two marathons, one 10Km and another 26Km. I'm also thinking about attempting the 42Km, maybe when I am 60 years old!
